Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Heart & Vascular Tower Construction and Trauma Center and ER Expansion, Baton Rouge, LA for Womack-Dunn, JV (JE Dunn Construction)

lady-of-the-lakeCommencing in 2013, TRG provided an Introduction to Last Planner® System and began facilitating Weekly Work Plan sessions on the construction of a 9-story 330,000 square-foot building dedicated to heart and vascular treatment and the construction of the first Level 1 Trauma Center in Baton Rouge, complete with a 10,000 square-foot post-tension concrete structure helipad. Construction is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2013.

University of Missouri, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Patient Care Tower Construction, Kansas City, MO, for JE Dunn Construction

During 2012, TRG facilitated weekly work planning sessions on this 315,000 square-foot patient care tower. The building will house the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, several surgical suites, and 90 private rooms. This $205 million development is scheduled for completion in 2013.

Overland Park Regional Medical Center Renovation, Overland Park, KS, for JE Dunn Construction

overland-parkCommencing in 2012, TRG provided an Introduction to Last Planner® System and began facilitating Weekly Work Plan sessions on the $121 million expansion and extensive renovation of the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. The expansion and renovation will add an additional 215,291 square-feet, including a 72 private-bed-tower, a highly advanced emergency department and expanded cardiac lab and neuro-interventional services.

Baylor Health Care System's Grapevine Hospital Renovation and Patient Tower Construction, Grapevine, TX, for MEDCO Construction

Grapevine Hospital Renovation and Patient Tower ConstructionCommencing in 2012, TRG implemented lean construction tools and Alignment Partnering on a new $100.5 million, five-story patient tower which will add 108 beds and a new women’s center. The improvements will center around the oncology department, cardiovascular center and spine center, plus the comprehensive women’s center which will expand services for women and children as well as their ability to care for critically ill newborn babies. The new tower is expected to open in the Summer of 2013.

Scripps Memorial Medical Center Expansion-Medical Office Building Construction, La Jolla, CA, for McCarthy Building Companies

Adjacent to the Scripps Cardiovascular Institute TRG is coaching the design-build team in their Design Assist/Design Build approach for the construction of a 140,000 square-foot Medical Office Building on the new Scripps Complex in La Jolla, CA. Design commenced 2013 with construction anticipated in the following years.

J. Craig Venter Institute Construction, La Jolla, CA, for McCarthy Building Companies

The new $35 million J. Craig Venter Institute is a 45,000 square-foot laboratory facility located in La Jolla, California, within the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) campus. Named for the famed genomic pioneer who, in 1995, led the team who decoded the genome of the first free-living organism, this facility is designed to be the most environmentally friendly and only “net zero energy” biological laboratory in the world.  The new J. Craig Venter Institute is envisioned to support approximately 125 scientists and other staff to further the organization’s goals in genomic research and policy.  Commencing in 2013, in the middle-phase of construction, TRG implemented Last Planner® System with robust Weekly Work Planning.

Sharp Mary Birch Hospital Neonatal ICU Renovation, San Diego, CA, for Swinerton Construction

Swinerton completed an addition and renovation to the Sharp Mary Birch Neonatal ICU. This project included 23 new NICU beds, 10 new WACU beds, pharmacy and laboratory, 27 remodeled pods of semi-private rooms to 54 private rooms, and 88,000 square feet of new nurse call. The renovation included major modifications to exisiting electrical, mechanical and low voltage systems.

Kaiser Hospital Replacement Medical Center, Oakland, CA, for McCarthy Building Companies

Kaiser Oakland Replacement Medical Center ProjectsThe Kaiser Oakland Replacement Medical Center is a one million sqft project in Oakland, California that includes building a new hospital, a Central Utility Plant and a Specialized Medical Office Building. The project was designed by NBBJ in Seattle, Washington with Design Assist trade contractors. TRG was retained on the project in August, 2010 to help establish reverse pull planning capability. Our contract was expanded to meetings and facilitation management in September 2010. Dan Fauchier has been on this project almost every week for over two years. Productivity increases on the project were evident by September 2010 and have continued throughout the project.

Parkland Hospital Replacement, Dallas, TX, for BARA Joint Venture

Parkland Replacement HospitalCommencing in July, 2011, led the project delivery team in an intensive six-month implementation of Last Planner® System on the $1.27BM replacement hospital construction in Dallas, Texas.

University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Replacement Facility, Dallas, TX, for TD Industries and Hunt Construction

This medical center will replace the existing St. Paul facility that was built in the 1950’s. During 2012, TRG worked with both companies on conducting Weekly Work Planning sessions.

Baylor Health Care System's Sammons Collins Cancer Center Renovation, Dallas, TX, for MEDCO Construction

Commencing in 2012, TRG implemented Last Planner® System on $60.5 million renovation of the Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Baylor University Medical Center’s sprawling urban hospital campus.

Parkland Hospital Central Utility Plant Construction, Dallas, TX, for TD Industries

parkland hospitalIn 2012, TRG facilitated weekly work planning sessions on this hospital construction, focusing on the construction of the CUP. The Parkland construction includes an inpatient hospital, outpatient center, parking garage, central utility plant, and logistics building make up this 2.5 million square foot project which is a 38% increase in bed space compared to the current facility.

UCSD National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Laboratory Replacement, La Jolla, CA, for Rudolph and Sletten

Training the construction team in Last Planner® and Pull Planning and facilitation of bi-monthly pull planning meetings at onset of construction of a NOAA replacement laboratory facility in La Jolla, California. Phase planning succeeded in revealing opportunity to overlap concrete pours to save substantial time in the schedule. Challenges: installation of the largest pre-fab, fiberglass sea tank.

Sharp Memorial Hospital Seismic Upgrades, San Diego, CA, for Swinerton Construction

In 2012, TRG implemented Pull Planning on this design-build healthcare project for an existing hospital that will bring the hospital up to the current structural codes.

UCSD School of Medicine Health Sciences Biomedical Research Facility Construction, La Jolla, CA, for McCarthy Building Companies

UCSD Health Sciences Biomedical Research Facility

McCarthy is building a 196,000-square-foot, $105 million five-story Health Sciences Biomedical Research Facility located on a 3.3-acre site within the School of Medicine campus at the University of California, San Diego. The project team is targeting LEED platinum certification. Designed by ZGF Architects, LLP, the facility will fit into the modern design context of the School of Medicine’s academic mall; its exterior incorporating a combination of concrete, curtain wall, metal panels, and terra cotta cladding. The facility will house wet labs, open lab space, lab support, and administrative space on five stories above ground, with core lab space and support mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in the basement.

Martin Health System's Tradition Medical Center Construction, Port St. Lucie, FL, for Balfour Beatty

The ReAlignment Group is the IPD facilitation coordinator for the new hospital being constructed by Martin Memorial in Traditions, Florida (a suburb of Port St. Lucie). TRG successfully managed a four hour interview workshop that introduced the concepts of a values matrix, pull planning and A3 development and use. Coaching work now continues. The project construction budget is approximately $65 million.

St. Joseph Health System's St. Jude Medical Office Building and Parking Structure Construction, Fullerton, CA, for McCarthy Building Companies

st jude medical office buildingMcCarthy was the general contractor for a four-level medical office building (MOB) and a 485-car parking structure at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Calif.  The project features a 98,000-square-foot MOB housing general x-ray, internal medicine, endocrinology, pulmonary, breast center, orthopedics, sports medicine and outpatient operating rooms. The new MOB was integrated with an existing MOB on three floors.

Sharp Chula Vista Hospital RenovationFrom November 2009 through February 2010, The ReAligment Group led the design team for the Sharp Hospital Chula Vista renovation through weekly Last Planner and Pull Planning sessions to facilitate design coordination with design representatives from twelve trades. During October 2010, The ReAlignment Group again began facilitation of Last Planner and Pull Planning sessions with the Construction Team at the onset of the construction phase of the hospital renovation.

Scripps Cardiovascular Institute and Central Plant Plan Construction, La Jolla, CA, for McCarthy Building Companies

scripps cardiovascular instituteMcCarthy is the Design-Assist general contractor for the new 383,000-square-foot Scripps Cardiovascular Institute and adjacent 26,000-square-foot Central Energy Plant on the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla campus in La Jolla, California. Construction completion is targeted for 2015. The new Scripps Cardiovascular Institute will serve as a destination hospital for cardiac care on the West Coast.

Martin Luther King Hospital Ambulatory Care Center Construction, Los Angeles, CA, for McCarthy Building Companies

martin luther king hospitalMcCarthy is constructing the 132,550-square-foot design-build facility, which will house five operating rooms, dentistry, oncology and physical and  occupational therapy services. The project also includes 10 acres of site parking and landscape, offsite signalization and street improvements as well as a 31,000-square-foot LEED Silver-rated renovation to existing administration space.

Northwest University Feinberg School of Medicine Laboratory Renovations, Chicago, IL for Ragnar Benson Construction

feinberg-laboratoryIn 2012, TRG implemented Last Planner® System coaching and training on the renovation of 100,000 square-feet of existing laboratory space at NWU’s Feinberg School of Medicine which has streamlined the hand-off of work between subcontractors and improved the quality and reliability of each trade partner’s work. Key milestone dates on the project are being maintained because all stakeholders are proactively working together to remove any “rocks in the road” using LPS.
